about

This jaunty little number is a reflection on the energy and ambition of youth from a position of maturity, when you suddenly realise that your life has not turned out the way you had hoped, and that time is slipping away. However, The Ticket is also a celebration of all we can accomplish, and an appreciation that life’s simplest achievements can be our most important and fulfilling reward.

The Ticket is a metaphor for one’s fate being preordained and the fragility of our existence; you take, or are handed, a ticket that determines how your life will play out, not one part of which is really within our control. However an appreciation of what you have at a very basic level can sustain us through difficult times.

Musically The Ticket has a whimsical melody which, in parts, is in stark contrast to the reflective lyrical tone. Ultimately, however, this is an upbeat song, which recognises that, no matter what we planned, life can be good and we can be lucky – although perhaps not as we had expected. It’s a sentiment we would all do well to recognise – reflect, sway, and enjoy!
